System Setup & Onboarding
Create your 5S system in minutes with our guided 4-step wizard. Choose your industry, define plant areas, and get pre-built checklists tailored to your work.
Start Setup WizardWhat Is System Setup?
The onboarding wizard walks you through creating a new 5S system tailored to your industry. In four steps you will have a fully configured system with pre-built checklists ready for operator use.
- The wizard generates pre-built checklists based on industry templates
- Each system can have up to 20 plant areas, each with its own checklist and QR code
- You can create up to 10 systems per account
- Typical setup time: 5-10 minutes
Before You Start
Have the following information ready before starting the wizard:
- Your industry and sub-industry (e.g., "Automotive > Assembly Line")
- The physical areas in your plant you want to audit (e.g., "CNC Area", "Assembly", "Warehouse")
- Your preferred scoring mode: YesNo (simplest), ThreePoint, or FivePoint (most granular)
- Your operator identity preference: Anonymous, Name Remembered, or Employee Code
1 Choose Your Industry
The wizard displays 12 industry tiles with icons. Select the one closest to your manufacturing type. Each industry activates industry-specific checklist items that will be pre-loaded into your areas. If none match exactly, choose "General Manufacturing."
- 12 industry options covering CNC/Metal, Food & Beverage, Automotive, Chemical, Plastics, Electronics, Mining, Pharmaceutical, Logistics, Packaging, Machinery, and General Manufacturing
- Each industry activates curated checklist items specific to your type of work
- If none match, choose "General Manufacturing" for a broad set of universal 5S items

2 Select Sub-Industry
Based on your industry selection, 5-12 sub-industry options appear. Sub-industries provide more specific checklist items tailored to your exact type of work. Some sub-industries include AI-generated items if they have not yet been fully curated.
- Sub-industries refine the checklist templates with more specific items for your work type
- Some options include AI-generated items marked with a badge, indicating they are auto-suggested and can be reviewed

3 Define Plant Areas
The wizard suggests area archetypes based on your industry (e.g., "CNC Machine Area", "Tool Storage", "Quality Lab"). You can accept the suggested areas, remove any that do not apply, or add custom areas. Each area gets its own checklist and QR code.
- Area archetypes are suggested based on your industry and sub-industry selection
- You can add up to 20 areas per system -- add custom areas by typing their names
- Each area represents a distinct physical workspace that will be audited independently

4 Review & Create
Review your selections and configure the final system settings. Set a system name (e.g., "Planta CNC Monterrey"), choose your scoring mode, review pipeline, operator identity mode, and default locale. Click "Create" to generate your system with all areas and pre-built checklists.
Scoring Mode
- YesNo -- Simplest mode. Each compliance item is Yes (pass) or No (fail).
- ThreePoint -- Three-level scale: 1 (Bad), 2 (OK), 3 (Good). Scores of 2 and 3 count as passing.
- FivePoint -- Five-level scale (1-5). Most granular. Scores of 3, 4, and 5 count as passing.
Review Pipeline
- QuickStart -- Submissions auto-complete with no supervisor review. Best for getting started.
- Supervised -- Supervisor must approve each submission. For established 5S programs.
- FullChain -- Multi-step approval pipeline. For regulated industries (pharmaceutical, automotive).
- PeerVerified -- Another operator verifies before supervisor review. For peer accountability.
Operator Identity Mode
- Anonymous -- Operators skip identity entry. Fastest but no personal tracking.
- Name Remembered -- Operators enter their name (saved in browser). Enables streaks and leaderboard.
- Employee Code -- Operators enter their employee ID. Most formal, full traceability.
Default Locale
Choose the default language for operator check forms: English (en), Spanish (es), or Portuguese (pt). Operators see the checklist in this language when they scan the QR code.

After Setup: What's Next
- Customize checklists per area using the Checklist Editor (see the Checklist Editing guide)
- Print QR codes for each area (see the QR Distribution guide)
- Distribute QR codes to the plant floor -- post at area entrances or workstations
- Activate the system by changing its status from Draft to Active on the dashboard
Tips & Best Practices
- Start small: begin with 3-5 areas using the YesNo scoring mode. You can always add areas and switch scoring later.
- Use the Name Remembered identity mode to track operator streaks and leaderboard without adding login friction.
- The QuickStart pipeline is best for getting started. Switch to Supervised once your daily check volume is consistent.
- Test the operator flow yourself by scanning a QR code before distributing to the plant floor.
